History of the HCG Diet

In the 1950’s, a doctor named A.T.W. Simeons discovered the HCG Diet while satisfying a curiosity that he obtained while travelling through India. During his travels in India, he noticed that malnourished Indian women were giving birth to healthy babies. As Dr. Simeons pondered this phenomenon, he began to do research and discovered the mechanism behind the HCG hormone.

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin or HCG is a hormone that is produced in pregnant women throughout pregnancy to protect the fetus from nutritional deficiencies. If a woman does not have an adequate amount of body fat to sustain a pregnancy, usually the body will not allow pregnancy to occur, and when it does, the HCG hormone functions to use fat stores to supply nutritional deficiencies to the fetus in the event of a famine or food shortage.

After Dr. Simeons discovered this hormone, he began to isolate it and use it to help people that were not pregnant lose weight. When a person is not pregnant, the hormone works the same way, and therefore, both women and men can use the hormone. Ingesting the HCG hormone makes part of the brain believe that there is a fetus to feed, and when it perceives a nutritional or caloric deficit, it begins to utilize fat stores to supplement nutrient deficits.

Once Dr. Simeons began to apply his ideas to people that needed to lose a significant amount of weight, he got very successful results. He opened a renowned weight loss clinic in Italy, and he wrote the book, “Pounds and Inches”. Since Dr. Simeons began to use the HCG hormone for weight loss, many thousands of people that have correctly followed the diet have been able to lose dramatic amounts of weight and improve their health.

The HCG Diet Protocol

The HCG Diet is best used when a person has 15 pounds or more of weight to lose, and both men and women can benefit from the HCG Diet. While on the diet, a person must follow a 500-calorie a day diet, which is necessary in order for the body to sense that there is not enough nutrition. Once the body detects the need for more nutrition, it breaks into fat stores and burns them for energy. Usually, the body burns fat from its’ largest supply, which may be on the abdomen, buttocks, arms, or hips.

After finishing the diet, most people are able to achieve permanent weight loss, and this can be due to a few factors. First of all, the body completely resets its metabolism while on the diet, and secondly, a person forms new eating habits that include low fat, high fiber, and nutritious foods. Some people may regain a few pounds back during the initial days following the diet, and this is because the body is still adjusting its’ metabolism.

No matter how enthusiastic a person is about losing weight, the body will not reduce itself below a weight that is considered to be healthy for a person’s height, age, and physical constitution. The body may also deem it necessary to replace essential fats, which are the healthy fats needed to cushion internal organs and protect parts of the bones and the abdominal cavity.
